Recently released footage by CGTN showcases the baby Bengal Tigers, all artificially reproduced, playing with each other and their caregivers on November 10.
Why Are They Rare? White Bengal Tigers have always been exceptionally rare in the wild. They are Bengal Tigers but possess a genetic anomaly causing their distinctive white coloration.
A baby White Bengal Tiger can only be born when both parents carry the rare gene, occurring naturally only once per 10,000 births.
This newly established nursery is inside the Taiyuan Zoo in northern China’s Shanxi Province.
According to China Central Television Station, the number of newborn white tiger cubs has surged at the Taiyuan Zoo this year.
Due to many tiger mothers lacking parental experience, a special team has been set up to raise the cubs in a designated area.
Apart from Taiyuan Zoo, Xipu Park in Liaoyangang City, China, has also welcomed white cubs. The newborn White Bengal Tiger quadruplets at Xipu Park made their public debut on November 8.
Caring for a white tiger cub demands time and energy. A newborn cub must be fed as many as eight times daily in the first two weeks after birth.
Most cubs at the zoo measure 70 to 80 centimeters in length and around 20 kilograms in weight.
According to the keeper, they will soon be ready to meet the public. In August, Bengal white tiger Meng gave birth to the quadruplets at the Liaoyangang zoo.
Conclusion: due to their striking coloration, White Bengal Tigers have garnered popularity among zoos and circuses alike.
Two other Chinese zoos, Liaoyangang’s Xipu Park and Jinan Wildlife Park, have both reported births of White Bengal Tiger cubs this year.
